Requiem for a Queen

(c) 1996, 2014 Drew Nicholson

You have rules and led the kingdom
Safely kept the Dragon Lands
But today your reign is over
Time for rule by other hands

Now it’s time to rest your weary head
It’s time to sleep the sleep of the dead
Through the mist your spirit passes
On the way to better lands

Once you flew the sky with dragons
Once you raised your sword up high
But your weary wings are tattered
And your grave you can see nigh

So it’s time to step down off the throne
It’s time to ride for far off home
Through the trees your coffin passes
Underneath a tear-swept sky

You have fought the wolf of winter
Until your dying breath
No longer Queen now, but a Countess
Alive, but after death

Now it’s time to raise your rapier bright
What you want now lives within your sight
For it’s time to be a Countess
And the world will see your light

Yes it’s time to laugh, and with eyes bright
You’ll spend your life, dead, with your Knight
For it’s time to be a Countess
And the world will see your light
